Summary
I am a trained natural products and synthetic organic chemist. I have however expanded my skills to cover executive management, technical areas such as general and hazardous waste management, pollution matters, contaminated site clean-up, management and implementation of MEAs, especially the chemical cluster of MEAs (Basel, Minamata, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Waigani conventions), policy development for environmental development issues, project management and implementation.

I am a very friendly person by nature and am very easy to get along with.

The project aims to reduce emissions of POPs particularly those are produced unintentionally, in the 14 Pacific Island countries who are signatories to the Stockholm Convention. The Stockholm Convention is global treaty that controls the intentional and unintentional production, use, trade and release/storage of POPs. The unintentional persistent organic pollutants (uPOPs) listed under the Stockholm Convention are: - Dioxins and Furans - Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and Dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDF) - HCBs - Hexachlorobenzene - PCBs - Polychlorinated Biphenyls Project date: Sat, 01/03/2003 - 12:00 - Fri, 01/12/2006 - 12:00 Location: Pacific Regional Position: Technical Adviser Title: Persistent Organic Pollutants in Pacific Islands countries (POPs in PICs) Description: The Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Pacific Island Countries (PICs) scheduled POPs and intractable pesticide disposal project (POPs in PICs) was an Australian Government funded initiative administrated through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and implemented in conjunction with Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to manage and dispose of POPs and other intractable pesticides in the Pacific Region. The Project is referred to herein as the “POPs in PICs” Project. The POPs in PICs Project was part of the international community’s broader efforts to appropriately manage hazardous wastes in the Pacific Region. The Global Environment Facility (GEF), provides funding for countries Party to the Stockholm Convention to prepare National Implementation Plans (NIPs) to address scheduled POPs and other hazardous wastes. Other donors such as New Zealand Aid (NZAid) are supporting activities in hazardous waste management in a number of countries in the Pacific Region. The objective of the POPs in PICs Project was to assist PICs to appropriately dispose of POPs and intractable pesticides that they do not have the facilities to dispose of in-country and also to contribute to the establishment of effective plans for materials that can be managed in-country. Overall the POPs in PICs Project contributed to: improving and/or preserving environmental quality in PICs; minimising potential health impacts caused by human exposure to POPs; and overall economic stability of the region by reducing the threat of POPs to the local ecosystem reliant economies including tourism, fishing and agriculture. Project date: Mon, 01/01/2007 - 12:00 - Sat, 01/12/2007 - 12:00 Location: Pacific Regional Position: Project Coordinator-Manager Title: E-waste project in the Pacific Description: This project was designed with the aim to address the key obstacles to the environmentally sound management of e-waste in the Pacific Islands region. It supported local initiatives to divert end-of-life equipment from landfills towards sustainable reuse and recycling operations, in a way that the economic benefits of sustainable management are derived, while human health and the environment are protected. As a practical initiative, it was designed to strengthen national and regional implementation of the Basel and Waigani Conventions with due regard to existing relevant international obligations. The project thus provided an assessment of the regional situation on e-wastes, provided tools to develop policies for re-use, repair, refurbishment and recycling and build capacity to implement these policies in partnership with Parties in the region, industry and local NGOs. The project aimed at raising public awareness on the environmentally sound management of used and end-of-the electrical and electronic equipment. Project date: Wed, 01/01/2014 - 12:00 Location: Samoa Position: Technical Adviser Title: Samoa SAICM Project Description: The objectives of this project are consistent with the objectives of the SAICM QSP in that the project aims to: ?? establish a strong institutional framework for SAICM implementation through the development of a national chemical profile and strengthening of the national chemical management institutions and plans building on the work done through the various international and regional chemicals-related agreements and initiatives. This also includes analyzing the way in which current chemical management issues are handled including interagency coordination, public and private sector participation, information dissemination etc. ?? strengthen national capacities and capabilities in both public and private sectors for sound management of chemicals by identifying the capacity needs and developing plans and activities to remedy them. ?? establish a coherent approach to chemicals and wastes management across all sectors necessary to protect health and the environment by building on the current Government initiatives on waste management as well as building on the activities already identified in the NIP for Stockholm Convention ?? establish national multi-stakeholder platform for catalyzing coordinated activities in the national chemicals management infrastructure ?? promote the awareness of decision makers and other relevant actors about the relevance of chemical safety and sustainable development
